Spectacular Gatineau Hills Hobby Farm Sold

Hobby Farm Sold

Our farmhouse is on 68 acres in the Gatineau Hills just west of Gatineau Park (the Pontiac). It takes an hour to drive to downtown Ottawa (outside of rush hour). Our address is 8 Twelfth Line, Bristol.  Its natural beauty would attract anyone with a love of peace and quiet and nature.

25 acres of the property is a private lake (swimming, skating, fishing (smallmouth bass, barbot)), about 20 acres is woodland and about 20 acres is pasture/field. The house overlooks the lake and there are no visible neighbours from the house. It is a nature lovers paradise. From the house you can watch the birds (herons, ducks, geese, osprey, kingfishers, kingbirds…) and animals (beaver, muskrat, otters…) on the lake. The property has the lake, a stream, beaver ponds, a sphagnum bog (with pitcher plants, Labrador tea and cranberries) and the woods are producing mushrooms right now (chanterelles, porcini…). It is zoned agricultural.

It has a small barn, and a few smaller sheds. Over the years I have had 18 sheep, a horse, a few cattle and poultry (chickens, ducks, geese, etc.), but now we have only a dog and 3 cats, which makes it easier to travel.

I am an avid gardener. We have perennial beds surrounding the house, and a large vegetable garden on the South-facing slope. I haven't used chemicals on it for decades so it can be considered organic.

The original farmhouse was probably built over a hundred years ago. After I purchased it in 1982, siding and new decks were added, and interior rooms were upgraded. In 2011 we replaced all the original windows and installed a geothermal heat pump to replace an older wood furnace.

Electricity was just under $2000 last year (that includes the heat) and taxes are about $1000.

We decided to move because we are getting older and feel we should settle in to a new place while we are still both in good health and can enjoy it. A big factor is that Marcio doesn't drive, and relies on me to go places. If something happened to me, Marcio would have a hard time to deal with things. Our plan is to move to Montreal within walking distance of downtown. It would give Marcio a degree of independence, and there should be lots of new opportunities for his artwork.

The hobby farm is sold.

Thank you for your interest.
